About GEN II

 " Welcome to GEN II"

Mike Smith, Managing Smith, GEN IIGEN II is a joint venture training company established in 2000 by five of West Cumbria's major employers - Sellafield Ltd, Corus, AMEC, Iggesund Paperboard and Innovia Films. UKAEA also joined the partnership in 2005.

The company was predominately formed as an apprentice engineering and technology training provider to deliver high quality apprentice training to both the partners and to the wider community. Since its formation GEN II has developed a wide range of bespoke training courses, apprenticeships and higher-education programmes covering a spectrum of technology-related disciplines including: Professional Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Control and Instrumentation); Nuclear Related Technologies; Manufacturing; Health and Safety; ICT; Leadership and Management.

GEN II courses are designed with close employer engagement to meet specific skills requirements, are fully accredited by appropriate professional bodies and range from Entry level through to Foundation Degrees to Masters Level (QCF Levels 2 – 7). Courses are delivered from various GEN II training centres throughout Cumbria and, depending on the programme, may be attended on a full-time, part-time, day or block-release basis.   

In line with GEN II vision, ‘to be the first choice provider of high quality education and training in nuclear and engineering technologies,’ the Company aim is to be the supplier of choice for learning and development activities, delivering innovative solutions for customers that are in accordance with the needs of their business.

The company employs more than 90 members of staff, most of whom are fully qualified trainers capable of offering their expertise to the Cumbrian workforce. GEN II deliver a range of engineering training from extensive engineering training facilities based at Carlisle, ENERGUS facility in Lillyhall and in Furness.  Our Department for Engineering and Energy Technology are based at Cleator Moor, with IT training delivered at the GEN II Head Office at Lillyhall, Workington.

Part of GEN II's aim is to work with agencies in order to seek funding which will help employers train and upskill their workforce.

GEN II offers not only tailor made courses for employers in sectors such as engineering, health and safety and information technology, but also a range of NVQs/QCF qualifications and many other nationally accredited qualifications.
